Baby Gear: What the heck do we need?

I've been working on setting up a registry at Babies-R-Us, and I'm
trying to register for things that are necessities. Obviously we need a crib, and we plan on co-sleeping for at least the first 3-4 months, so I've picked out a co-sleeper. Since space is at a premium at our house, I don't want to go too crazy with baby gear, but I want to make sure I'm not having to run to the store every week grabbing something I decided we didn't need and now find that we do.
For starters, I'm conflicted about the whole changing table thing. The baby's room is also Aaron's office, and it's only 10' x 10' to begin with. Do we really need to cram a changing table in there, or will using the closest available surface work? And what about all the "gear"? I've heard from some people that a swing is a lifesaver, others say they are pointless.
So, mommies out there, what are your thoughts? What things do you think are necessities based on your experience, and what things can we cross of the "To Buy" list?

  1. we like the swing at our house. asa naps in his everyday. i don't think you need a bouncy seat if you have a swing. we have a bedside co-sleeper and i like it. we never used a changing table. we just change him on the floor or in his crib/co-sleeper. i think you hit on the important big items to have.

of course there is the stroller and car seat too. we have a carrier car seat which i like because even though 99% of the time i leave it in the car, it is nice to be able to bring it in so the buckles aren't too hot on it in the car and to have a place to set baby down if you're at a restaurant or smthg. the britax carseats are really "in" right now though.

the stroller is a tough choice. you definitely want one that reclines pretty flat. then you have to decide btwn big and spacious or small and sleek. we had the big one with cal and i got rid of it b/c it was hard to maneuver in store isles and other small or crowded places. we have a lightweight one now and i am happy with it. we have this one: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3384794

    good luck!

  2. You do NOT need the changing table thing. Personally never had one. Never had room. And then what do you do with it when the diaper stage is gone?? Perhaps it could be turned into a piece of furniture that could be used for something else?? Naw, not enough room!
